PitStop Carwash Expanding In the Gulf South

Stirling Properties commercial real estate company is pleased to announce that PitStop Carwash is expanding its presence in the Gulf South market with the addition of two new locations. Andrew Dickman, Stirling Properties Sales & Leasing Executive, represented PitStop Carwash in securing both properties.

PitStop Carwash is set to open its 4th location at 457 Highway 90 in Waveland, MS. The grand opening of this facility is scheduled for May 10, 2018.

The company also recently purchased 1.5 acres of land at 809 Fairhope Avenue in Fairhope, AL, for development of its 5th carwash location. Anticipated opening is scheduled for January of 2019. Philip Hodgson with Coldwell Banker Reehl Commercial represented the seller.

Matherne’s Market to be Retail Anchor Tenant in LSU’s Nicholson Gateway

LSU announced today that Matherne’s Market will be the retail anchor tenant in the university’s new Nicholson Gateway Development Project, currently under construction on a 28-acre site of the Nicholson Drive Corridor, between West Chimes Street and Skip Bertman Drive.

Matherne’s Market will occupy 17,063 square feet of the roughly 50,000-square-foot retail component of Nicholson Gateway, which will primarily serve residents of the project, the LSU community and visitors.

“Matherne’s Market is an ideal addition to Nicholson Gateway,” said Steve Waller, LSU assistant vice president of residential life and housing. “We are excited to offer our new student residents access to a well-established local grocery store, just steps from their apartment doors. An on-site grocer is an amenity that will enhance the Nicholson Gateway living experience for the more than 1,500 students who will call this new space home.”

Tony Matherne, co-owner of Matherne’s Market, said, “We are very excited to bring our new Matherne’s Market concept to the Nicholson Gateway project at LSU! This Market will have the same offerings and ‘feel’ as our downtown location. We believe that our new store format, with a focus on fresh, specialty and prepared foods, catering and online shopping, with pickup and delivery options, highlights our company strengths and delivers the products and services that our customers want and need. Although our new format is smaller in size than our previous Baton Rouge supermarkets, this will be a full-service market that will provide the residents, students, faculty and staff, and visitors to LSU, as well as the residents and businesses of the surrounding area, with a clean, friendly and inviting shopping experience.”

The LSU Property Foundation, an affiliate of the LSU Foundation, is facilitating Nicholson Gateway. Stirling Properties is serving as the retail developer and leasing broker on the project, working with the prime developer, Georgia-based RISE, which specializes in student housing. Stirling Properties will also handle ongoing retail property management.

Slated for completion by this fall, Nicholson Gateway will include 763 units of apartment-style housing for over 1,500 students, with associated residential support spaces, such as lounge spaces, study areas, community gathering places and retail food service. The project, focused on the largest underdeveloped tract of university-owned property that is adjacent to the campus core, will turn what has traditionally been the back of the campus into an exciting new gateway district.

Walmart Grocery Pickup Location Coming to Metairie, Louisiana

Stirling Properties commercial real estate company is pleased to announce a recent lease to Walmart for a new standalone grocery pickup location in Metairie, Louisiana. The highly visible property is located at 615 Veterans Memorial Boulevard, between Aris and Focis Streets, in the former Whitney Bank location.

Walmart will be renovating the existing building to include a roughly 4,000-square-foot, 2-story distribution facility. Work is expected to commence within the month, with an anticipated opening by the end of 2017.

The new-to-market grocery concept allows customers to order products online and pick them up at a selected location, usually a Walmart store. According to the retailer, more than 30,000 items—including produce, meat, seafood, dairy, bakery items, as well as health and beauty products–can be ordered online and picked up for free at designated sites.

The new facility on Veterans Memorial Boulevard will mark the first standalone grocery pickup location in the greater New Orleans region, allowing shoppers the convenience of a drive-thru site without ever having to exit their vehicles or visit a Walmart store. This facility also adds an additional grocery pickup location for consumers aside from the existing Walmart store located at 8912 Veterans Memorial Boulevard in Metairie.

Walmart is working to enhance its curbside pickup services in an effort to provide the same low prices as in stores, along with convenience to save customers time and money. Walmart is rapidly expanding grocery pickup locations, bringing the number to more than 1,000 sites nationwide.

What’s Happening at Hammond Square?

End of the Lane, LLC will occupy 4,005 square feet of space on Main Street (between Justice and rue 21) and plans to open on November 17th, 2017—just in time for the holiday shopping season. The retailer will feature holiday décor, gifts, home furnishings, toys, clothing, accessories, and more. This will be the 2nd location for End of the Lane with an existing store in Baton Rouge. Rhonda Sharkawy, Senior Retail Leasing and Development Executive with Stirling Properties, handled the lease transaction.

Hammond Square is a proud supporter of CASA (Child Advocacy Services) and Cottages for CASA, a playhouse fundraiser to generate public awareness and support for the work of CASA and its services in our ten parish area. Local builders, painters, and designers have created a unique playhouse that will be raffled off to one lucky winner. Every 2nd Saturday of the month during March through November, Hammond Square hosts the Golden Oldies Cruise Night car show from 5:00pm-9:00pm at the end of Main Street. The events are free and open to the public. ($2 entry for show cars) Come out and enjoy an evening at the Square!

Stirling Properties commercial real estate company is pleased to announce the closing on the sale of 220 West Garden (former SunTrust Tower) in Pensacola, Florida. The 95,329-square-foot, 10-story office tower was purchased by Civic Conversations, LLC, which is part of the Studer Family of Companies.

Jason Scott, Sales & Leasing Executive with Stirling Properties, worked on behalf of the seller on the property transaction. Stirling Properties will also resume the management and leasing assignments of the property. Exciting new renovations for the building are expected to commence in November of this year, with completion anticipated for the fourth quarter of 2018.

“We are glad that one of Pensacola’s most iconic buildings is going to continue to serve the Pensacola community in a fresh, new way,” said Scott. “We are equally excited at the opportunity to work with Studer Properties, LLP and its team to provide them with quality management and leasing services that complement Studer’s core mission for improving the quality of life.”

Studer’s plans for the property include a significant capital investment with the goal of turning it into a place for community discussions and dialogue, to host expert speakers on issues important to Pensacola, and create an open public space for citizens to meet and enjoy downtown, and a best-in-class event center.

While most of the building will remain a multi-tenant office tower, the renovation plans include converting the 17,000-square-foot ground floor into a community interaction area with café, lecture space, and an environment for other community gatherings. The existing exterior open space will become an urban plaza for musical events, outdoor movies, and other seasonal activities. The building’s ninth floor will include an observation room for visitors.
