Field of Dreams Comes To Fruition
The Miracle League Northshore recently celebrated the ribbon cutting of its new Children’s Hospital & Brees Family Miracle Field located at Coquille Parks and Recreation in Covington, Louisiana!
The Miracle League works to provide disabled children and young adults, regardless of their level of disability, the opportunity to play league games and enjoy the emotional and physical benefits of being part of a team. The group promotes the health and well-being of children with disabilities, provides opportunities for non-disabled children to learn about and interact with children with disabilities, and develops community awareness and support for athletes with disabilities through organized sports leagues.
Previously, the children played on a natural-grass field, but the dirt and grass design was challenging and unsafe to maneuver from a wheelchair or with crutches used by many Miracle League participants. Coquille Parks and Recreation donated land, and after a years-long fundraising campaign, the group was able to raise enough money to build a brand new special-needs field.
The new Miracle Field is a specially constructed surface that uses a cushioned, synthetic turf to accommodate wheelchairs and other walking-assistance devices that, along with appropriate support facilities, is designed specifically for use by children with disabilities.
Stirling Properties is proud to have played a small role in this significant accomplishment. In 2016, we selected the Miracle League Northshore as one of the beneficiaries of our annual Stirling Olympics fundraiser, raising $28,000 to help fund the new playing field! Additionally, Team Stirling members—Griffin Lennox and Bradley Cook—have been active volunteers and ambassadors with The Miracle League since 2015.
Lennox also serves as a “buddy” for participants with The Miracle League to help encourage learning and fun. “Stirling Properties is grateful to have had the chance to participate in such a rewarding project and see the Miracle Field finally come to fruition. Every child deserved the opportunity to play sports and have fun interacting with other children—and this new field offers a supportive environment to do that. Being able to work with The Miracle League over the last few years has been incredibly rewarding. The excitement and determination you see on our players’ faces are truly inspirational,” said Lennox.
Stirling Properties was one of the many supporters to help bring the project to fruition, but the two major sponsors, Children’s Hospital and the Drew Brees family, really knocked it out of the park! Together, they gave more than $400,000 of the $900,000 it cost to complete the facility.
Now, let the games begin! The inaugural spring baseball games have kicked off. Visit miracleleaguenorthshore.org to learn how you can get involved. Volunteers and financial support is needed for continued operation of the Miracle Field.

‘Tis the Season for Giving!
For it is in giving that we receive. –Francis of Assisi
Team Stirling Properties once again teamed up with Volunteers of America to participate in the Christmas Wish “Angel” Project. For the 7th year, our company donated Christmas gifts and other essential items to local families in need across our Gulf South region.
The annual Christmas Wish Project helped bring joy and holiday cheer to families and individuals who might not have had a Christmas this year. Through Volunteers of America (VOA), participating families submitted “wish list” gift items for each individual. The wishes were noted on paper angels and hung on the company Christmas tree where Stirling Properties and employees could select and grant them. In all, 11 families and more than 60 children, adults and seniors received Christmas gifts.
Stirling Properties’ Stewardship Committee organized the company-wide events by partnering with Volunteers of America in Greater New Orleans, Greater Baton Rouge and the Southeast to serve the New Orleans Northshore and Southshore, Baton Rouge, Lafayette, and Mobile communities.
In addition to donating gifts to the Christmas Wish Project, Stirling Properties hosted its fourth annual Northpark Christmas Bazaar, Bake Sale & Raffle on Thursday, November 29th. Local vendors, as well as employees of the Northpark office complex sold baked goodies, crafts, jewelry, ornaments, artwork, beauty products and many other great gift items.
The Christmas Bazaar raised $3,000 which was also donated in full to Volunteers of America to assist more families in our area with emergency holiday needs.
Team Stirling Properties also held a ‘Tis The Season Day,’ where employees donated money for the opportunity to wear their favorite Stirling gear to work (or Saintsmas gear, of course!). The day raised $315 that will benefit the VOA Christmas Wish Project as well.
The Holiday Season is a time for gratitude, generosity and giving back to our region. Stirling Properties is committed to supporting the communities where we live and work, and we will continue to support local nonprofits, community groups and charitable organizations throughout the year and beyond.
Thank you to all of the vendors, donors and shoppers who made this project a huge success. On behalf or Stirling Properties, we wish you and yours a joyous Holiday Season and a Happy New Year!

There are nearly 3,500 athletes, 1,000 coaches, and 10,000 volunteers and delegates from all over the world expected to attend and compete in the games this year. About 50,000 family, friends, and spectators are anticipated to attend.
Locally, 70 athletes, 28 unified partners, and 31 coaches and official delegates will join Andy in representing Louisiana. They are leaving this Saturday for Seattle. It costs participants approximately $1,000 each to attend. Stirling Properties is proud to provide $1,083.50 to cover Gay’s registration and travel expenses.

Throughout the day, Stirling Properties’ team members battled one another in quirky competitions and relay races such as Musical Chairs, Skornhole, Stirling Ball, Word Search Relay, Backyard Sling, and Stirling’s Dirty Laundry. Scores were tallied, and individual medals were awarded for each event.
